Sculpture of the Week !!!! - Bone Collector

  • 25th September 2022 to 2nd October 2022

This slightly larger, textured, unique ceramic sculpture bears the colour of aged bone. In her book "Women who Run With Wolves' Clarissa Pinkola Estse describes a powerful old woman called La Loba, who also goes by the name of Wild Woman or Luminous Wolf. In this sculpture La Loba is depicted as the 'Bone Collector'.

Here the author describes this aged archetype

'The sole work of La Loba is the collecting of bones. She is known to collect and preserve especially that which is in danger of being lost to the world. Her cave is filled with the bones of all manner of desert creatures: the deer, the rattlesnake, the crow. But her specialty is said to be wolves.'

Once the Bone Collector has gathered all the bones of a creature and assembled them she then breathes life back into them, and they become alive and whole again.

This seemingly dark piece is actually a celebration of protection, love and rebirth, A reminder that often one needs to travel through darkness to reach the light. This unique ceramic piece is on show at Wing Art Gallery in Wadhurst, UK.
