The Watcher in the Wild

By Eve Shepherd

He sees, but not you or me

He Sees something beyond, something within

He listens, he waits

The snap of a twig, a breeze, a breath

He waits, still as the thick stem of a tree

He smells the musk of his sweat, the quenching of the baked ,

now wet earth, the scent shift in the warm, cold air

He watches not with his eyes

He sees with all of who he is, was and will be.

He knows your yearning

He senses you, he feels you, your birth, your heart, your blood

He knows you

You sense his gaze

And you turn to see a horned shadow

Somewhere beyond the distance

He feels the air shift,

He hears your breath

And your blood quicken

And in a heartbeat, as wild things often do

He is gone
