A lone boat slips away into the fading light, cold blue skies slowly shift to peach as the sun sinks behind the headland. I love the effect of dusk on the river, the jangling glints of reflections hovering over inky dark waters. I like to try and paint the sensation of looking into the light, half dazzled so you can only pick out partial shapes. This painting started as a demonstration piece with the wonderful Newquay Society of Artists, to show them some of the incredible textures that you can build with oil and cold wax medium. On returning to the studio I wanted to finish it and give it that aura of mystery that you get as twilight starts to descend.
