Light fantastic, Grebe

SOLD

Painted on Arches Huile paper, with a deep yellow ground, protected with a clear wax coat, mounted on board and framed with a St Ives tray frame in white wood which measures 8cm.

Winter skies are my favourite, every day is a theatre of colour at dawn. This painting was inspired by the pink clouds that appeared overhead on the way down to Grebe one recent morning. With this particular painting I wanted to capture that moment when the night is turning to day, the sun isn’t quite up and the traces of night sky are still lingering. It is a glorious moment of anticipation. The textures of the oil paint mixed with the cold wax medium are ideal for creating that tapestry of colour as the different cloud types float in front of each other, catching the dawn pinks and oranges. By the headlands a faint mist hangs above the water where the water temperature is just slightly warmer than the air.

This painting is a natural sister to "A winter pink swim in the Helford River" or "Baby you're a firework", both similar elegies to the wonder of swimming under pink skies in the winter.

If you wanted to buy them as a pair the price would be £1300, or for three paintings £1800, please message me.
