Two pink lines, Grebe

This painting has been inspired by the beautiful pink skies that the cold weather accentuates. There is a very particular pink in the winter, blue tinged and so calming. My aim with this painting is to capture the peace and stillness as you immerse in the icy, icy water, just before the sun has risen. This is the scene looking east on Grebe beach, unusually on this particular morning there was more colour looking up river than towards the mouth. The title refers to the pink line of sky, and the pink line of surf as it breaks softly on the shingle beach. I have stripped the composition back to a very simple one to help build that sense of calm. The water often looks like milk in the early morning, before the day has decided what weather it will bring.
