Rod Walker
Born in West Kirby Cheshire in 1949, Rod Walker studied painting & sculpture at Epsom College of Art before moving down to West Penwith, Cornwall in 1970. Rod worked from studios around the area in Botallack and St Ives, before teaching at Penzance School of Art in 1985.
Teaching at Falmouth College of Art from 1989, Rod won a research award that enabled him to travel to India and study Hinduism. In fact, Walker has travelled extensively, including North Africa, Italy, India, Nepal and Thailand, undoubtedly viewing & absorbing all the different countries and their cultures.
"My painting is figurative, that is, its roots and inspirations are to be found in the world around me. I use simple themes and subjects. I try not to copy reality, but rather establish a relationship with it – altering and developing the colours, shapes and meanings to allow a deeper understanding of the image. My concerns are many and varied. I simply attempt to produce the works which seem most important to me at the time.”
Rod Walker is still based in West Penwith, currently living in Penzance with his studio nearby.
