A day at Durgan

This has been a very popular painting with all who have viewed it. It is a favourite scene of many, and it started out with a pink primed canvas which I then worked back into, using solvent and tools to scrape back and reveal flashes of pink in the sky and boat reflections. Cold wax gives the extra texture to capture the granite of the rocks. My favourite parts of the painting are the boats and the reflections of their masts, and the bold slash of blue where water flows round the rocks. I think there is an airiness to this painting that captures the feeling of a light breeze along the river.
